Property and casualty insurer Chubb Ltd (CB) is considering buying smaller rival Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. (HIG).

March 18, 2021: Chubb Limited (CB) presented The Hartford (HIG) with a proposal for a combination of our two companies that we believe would be strategically and financially compelling for both sets of shareholders and other constituencies.

March 28, 2021: Chubb Ltd.’s (CB) $23 billion takeover offer for Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. (HIG) has prompted Germany’s Allianz SE to study the feasibility of a counteroffer, according to people familiar with the matter.

March 29, 2021: Chubb Ltd.’s (CB)  disappointed The Hartford chose not to engage in discussions regarding a strategic business combination.
