Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) is in advanced talks to buy cybersecurity firm Symantec Corp. (SYMC), according to people familiar with the matter, seeking a further expansion into the more profitable software business.

July 07, 2019: Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) has secured financing and identified cost savings for the acquisition of Symantec Corp. (SYMC) in an all-cash deal that could value the cybersecurity firm at more than $22 billion including debt, according to people familiar with the matter.

July 15, 2019: Symantec Corp. (SYMC)  and Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) have halted their discussions for a proposed merger as the two sides couldn’t agree on a price, according to people familiar with the matter. Symantec shares fell as much as 15% to $21.70.

July 15, 2019: People close to Broadcom (AVGO) said the company was still keen to find a solution to carry out the deal.
