Broadcom Inc. (AVGOis in talks to acquire cloud-computing company VMware Inc. (VMW), according to people familiar with the matter.

Update(s):

May 23, 2022: Broadcom (AVGO) is in talks to pay around $60 billion for VMware (VMW) people familiar with the matter said, in what would be one of the biggest takeover deals of the year.

May 26, 2022: Broadcom Inc. (AVGO), and VMware, Inc. (VMW), announced an agreement under which Broadcom will acquire all of the outstanding shares of VMware in a cash-and-stock transaction that values VMware at approximately $61 billion, based on the closing price of Broadcom common stock on May 25, 2022.

In addition, Broadcom will assume $8 billion of VMware net debt.
