U.S. chipmaker ON Semiconductor Corporation (ON) entered a merger agreement on June 25, 2026, to acquire Synaptics in a deal valued at $7 billion. The transaction is Onsemi’s largest acquisition to date and is intended to deepen its presence in AI-enabled devices and so-called “physical AI.”

Physical AI, unlike cloud-based generative models, means tiny, energy-efficient chips embedded in robots, EVs, factory sensors, and smart cameras, able to sense, decide, and act instantly without needing a reliable internet link.
