When compiling our lists of top insider transactions weekly, we tend to exclude purchases made as part of public offerings or private purchase agreements. This week, we’ve decided to make an exception for Liquidia Corp. (LQDA), the small-cap biopharmaceutical company that’s been embroiled in a lawsuit with its bigger rival United Therapeutics (UTHR) for over three years.
United Therapeutics was founded by Martine Rothblatt, who had previously founded one of the largest audio entertainment companies in North America – Sirius Satellite Radio, now known as Sirius XM (SIRI). Ms. Rothblatt created United Therapeutics to search for a cure for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) when her daughter was diagnosed with the disease. She eventually succeeded and PAH became a very profitable franchise for the company. We wrote about United Therapeutics for the first time over twelve years ago after an insider purchase by Ms. Rothblatt.
