Merger activity increased last week with six new deals announced and one closing.

Deal Statistics:

New Deals:

  1. The acquisition of Omthera Pharmaceuticals (OMTH) by AstraZeneca (AZN) for $323 million or $12.70 per share in cash.
    In addition to the cash payment, each Omthera shareholder will receive Contingent Value Rights (CVRs) of up to approximately $4.70 per share, equating to approximately $120 million in total, if specified milestones related to Epanova are achieved, or if a milestone related to global net sales is achieved. This will bring the total potential acquisition cost to approximately $443 million.
  2. The acquisition of CapLease (LSE) by American Realty Capital Properties (ARCP) for $2.2 billion or $8.50 per share in cash.
  3. The acquisition of Stewart Enterprises (STEI) by Service Corp. International (SCI) for $1.4 billion or $13.25 per share in cash.
