As I mentioned in my previous How Are The Dogs Doing? blog post, the ten dogs of the dow have handily outperformed the indexes this year. Instead of manually trying to compute the returns for the dogs each time, I figured it would be interesting to build a page that automatically obtains the current quote for each of the dogs, computes the year-to-date change and figures out the average return from all the dogs. This is something similar to what we do for our model portfolio that updates itself automatically every time you visit the page.
We did build this page and aptly called it the Dogs Of The Dow. The table at the bottom of the page that compares the performance of the dogs versus the major indices is also generated on the fly. So if you want to see how the dogs are doing in the future, you know where to look.
