DoorDash, Inc. (DASH) entered into a merger agreement on October 29, 2026, to acquire Maplebear (the corporate name of Instacart) in a deal valued at $17 billion, expanding its presence in the rapidly growing US grocery delivery market amid intensifying competition among app-based platforms.

The deal, DoorDash’s biggest acquisition to date, will help the company expand beyond restaurant deliveries into groceries and other retail categories. It will also strengthen its ability to compete with major players such as Walmart (WMT) and Amazon (AMZN), which have extensive networks of stores, warehouses and delivery services.
